“Long, cold nights are for falling in love…
There’s nothing more romantic than twinkling lights and wrapping up warm in the cold, and this collection of twelve gorgeous stories will make you swoon with all the magic of the winter months. So curl u by the fireplace and get cosy. You have twelve reasons to stay indoors and fall in love.”
I had seen this book on Instagram quite bit over the last few months as people settle in with winter books, but I did not know too much about it apart from being short stories. I chose it as a book for one of the bingos I am taking part in.
Twelve short stories set around Christmas time, lots of different people, a guy dressing up as Santa for his boyfriend’s sister and a Jewish girl finding a guy at a carol concert who takes her to dinner and celebrates Hanukkah with her.
I have only read three of the authors before and have loved their work, however, I have not read any contemporary from two of them and one was a joint book. I also enjoyed being exposed to new authors that I have wanted to read and now want to read even more. I never really liked short stories, but when I read Because You Love to Hate Me I knew I had to read more.
I loved a lot of the characters, they all seemed really relatable. I also loved having different types of point of view, different main characters and different love interests. My friend asked if it was like Love Actually and I think it was with all the different love stories going on.
I cannot pick a favourite part, as then I would have to pick one part over all the others and so many of the stories were fabulous. But my favourite story was probably Your Temporary Santa because I laughed so much, but I also loved It’s A Yuletide Miracle, Krampuslauf, What The Hell Have You Done, Sophie Roth? and Beer Buckets And Baby Jesus. These stories took me through so many emotions, but as they are short stories I found it easier to put down when a story finished rather than wanting to carry on due to knowing what happens next in a full-length novel.
While reading My True Love Gave To Me, I described it as short stories set at Christmas with the characters finding love. I would recommend to anyone. 4 out of 5.
